GATESHEAD SHOPPING CENTRE WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD FOR ITS LOOS

Trinity Square in Gateshead has been recognised for its dedication to delivering exceptional public toilet facilities for visitors.

The washrooms are maintained by North East-based cleaning contractor Bettakleen Limited, which is responsible for cleaning the Square’s public areas, including the toilets.

Often overlooked, high-quality toilet facilities are an essential part of any visitor experience — and the team at Trinity Square understands their importance. Their efforts have now been rewarded with a prestigious National Diamond rating at the Loo of the Year Awards 2026.

Established more than 35 years ago, the Loo of the Year Awards celebrate the very best “away from home” washrooms across the UK and Ireland. Inspectors travel throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, assessing facilities across 63 categories and grading every aspect, from cleanliness to overall presentation.

Trinity Square regularly receives positive feedback from members of the public, with some describing the facilities as the “best in the North East” — and even beyond — for cleanliness.

Centre Manager Sharron Ashurst said: “We have always taken the experience of everyone using our facilities very seriously. We all need to use the loo, and we all remember it when that visit falls below expectations. That’s why we’ve made every effort to ensure the experience is a positive one. We’re absolutely delighted that the Loo of the Year inspectors have rated us so highly.”
